Alphabet Photo Scavenger Hunt

Preschooler +

S loves scavenger hunts, and she also loves taking pictures with my point and shoot camera.  So I decided to combine those loves with a photo scavenger hunt.  You could do this with any list of items, or you could do a color scavenger hunt, but for this hunt we decided to focus on the alphabet since S is learning to read.

I've showed her how to safely use my camera (strap always around her wrist, no bumping it into things, no fingers on the lens, etc) and it's always a special treat for her to get to use it.

This was a big project, and it did take her two days to complete.  We did a lot of running up and down the stairs, so it was a good workout too!  It's a good venue for talking about the sounds that each letter makes, and for talking about nouns vs. verbs (we felt verbs would be too hard to capture in photos, though my friend recently did with her daughters and it was adorable!).  We don't have an umbrella, so we we got stumped on that one - of course, later one of my friends pointed out u for underwear!  I do assure you that we have underwear at our house - we just didn't think of it!

S was able to come up with objects for most of the letters, though there were a few she needed my help with.

I used Picasa to make the collage (grid) and then I edited it in Creative Kit (there's an "edit in Creative Kit" button if you use Picasa for your photos) and used the Creative Kit software to be able to type on the collage itself.  Another great way to make this would be to use Picmonkey!
