Painting with Cars

Older Toddler +

S adores her little Hot Wheels cars (from the Dollar Store).  When I heard of an activity using different sized wheels to make prints, I thought of using her cars to paint.  She was definitely on board.  This is an activity that has been repeated over and over and over at our house.  :)

To start, I cover her art table with butcher paper and then drop blobs of paint all over.  The cars' job is to drive through every single blob!  They take their job very seriously.

Getting started.

Three at once!

And the end result!  She usually invites me to "drive" at least one car and today was no exception.  We like to race each other to see who can get to the remaining paint blobs first.

Though you can use any paint for this activity, I really love these Crayola Fingerpaints, solely because of the squeeze bottles!  Otherwise I am not a huge fan of these for actual fingerpainting (we love Lakeshore Learning's fingerpaints) both because of the texture and the slight smell they have.  But heck - the squeeze feature is just perfect for this activity.  I found these "tropical" colors on clearance at Michaels.

And don't forget S's favorite part - the carwash!  I just use one of our sensory bin tubs with some warm soapy water and S likes to use paper towels for the detailing.
